Along with spring, things pick up at the Health Department

It seems like every spring, we have a rise in Animal Bites!  Did you know animal bites are reportable to the Callaway County Health Department?  This requires an investigation by the Communicable Disease nurse.

Things to remember the following when dealing with an animal:

1.  Any animal can bite, even your family pet.

2.  Use caution with any animal you don’t know.

3.  Always supervise children around animals.

4.  Teach your child basic safety about the animal.

5.  Respect the animal’s territory, ie food, space, toys, etc.

If you are an animal owner, please make sure your pet is up to date on their shots, and have an identification tag attached to your pet.

These simple things can save time and effort if your pet attacks or bites someone.

Please call the Callaway County Health Department at 573-642-6881 and ask for Nancy if you have any other questions.
