National Septic Week

This week is national septic week so be prepared to learn about ways to take care of your septic system as well as how to maintain it.

Just a little history for you.

One in four US households depend on individual septic systems to treat wastewater.  Many of these households also use private wells for drinking water.  Failing septic systems may contaminate nearby waters, putting families’ health at risk and costing thousands of dollars in repairs or replacement.  Visit epa.gov/septicsmart to learn more and get SepticSmart.

Protect it and inspect it!! Homeowners can spend a few hundred dollars every 3-5 years on an inspection by a licensed service professional, or thousands of dollars on system repair or replacement.  Visit http://health.mo.gov/living/environment/onsite/index.php to learn more and get SepticSmart.

Next time you  are driving down the road, look around and see how many of your neighbors have a septic system that could affect your water quality.  Take care of those systems and they will serve you well for years.
